Pre-marriage Education

The FOCCUS Pre-marriage education program is an opportunity for couples to look at and discuss together, a variety of issues and influences that impact on a marriage relationship.

It is not a test, but an opportunity to spend time with each other and learn more about self, partner and your relationship; to learn new relationship skills and to build on the skills a couple already has; to identify strengths in the relationship and areas that may need time for working on and to explore your relationship expectations.

Central themes of the FOCCUS program:
1. Family influences
2. Career, finance, status, roles, possessions; balance between these
3. Marriage as a process
4. Communication/conflict
5. Religion/Spirituality

How Does It Work?
An inventory of questions is completed by the couple in the first 1 1/2 hour session and in the subsequent two 1 1/2 hour sessions, the couple will discuss together aspects of the questionnaire with the view to enhancing understanding self, partner and your relationship prior to your marriage.

All Foccus facilitators are trained and accredited in marriage education and FOCCUS facilitation, and comply with guidelines set down by the Attorney-General’s Department.

“I thought we communicated well, but this is different and better. It was great to have this time together and it showed us that we can speak to a trained ‘outsider’.”
